Functions of APA Units
- Nominating and electing members to the APA’s Executive Committee
- Practicing good governance within the Units
- Work in collaboration with their Village Councils in the best interest of the Village
- Hold leaders accountable
- Promote and help preserve Indigenous Culture and Customary practices
- Promote and preserve Indigenous Language
- Promote harmony in the communities and with other Villages.
- Promote the protection of the environment.
- Be the link of communication between the APA Secretariat and Communities.
- Hold meetings to discuss and decide on issues that may impact their lives.
- Advocate at the grassroots level and open space forums for their rights as Indigenous Peoples to be recognized and respected.
How do I establish an APA Unit in my Village?
- According to the APA’s constitution, at least TEN persons are needed to establish an APA Unit.
- Newly established Units are required to facilitate elections to identify a Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Unit may also establish Vice-Chairperson, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer positions if deemed necessary.
- The Unit may decide the number of committee members.
